Prejudice is found everywhere, inthe workplace, on the street, at school, everywhere. The fiction takesplace in a small town called Maycomb. The town is across-the-board of citizens wholove to gossip and people who discriminate against others. Thediscrimination is not but against those of colour, but those of lowerlass as well. They are most ordinarily found during the trial of TomRobinson. Harper Lee presents prejudice as an extensive problem, mostcomm moreover in the form of favorable class, race, and conduct prejudice.A showcase of prejudice found in the novel To Kill A Mocking Bird would besocial class. For warning, the Ewell family is considered white dispose. Mr. Ewell is someone who will never change his ways, (31)and will always be considered this way because of several reasons. Mr.Bob Ewell is a part of this WPA organization, a type of welfareprogram. Because he is the very first person to be kicked come on of thisprogram because of his laziness, it shows how much of a lower class he rightfully is, and he is constantly bothered because of this. His severaluneducated children never went to a full year of school, and workedlong and hard on the farm. Another example would be the Cunninghamfamily. The Cunningham family never took anything they cant payback (20) And when they couldnt pay back in money, they paid theirdebt back in at any rate possible, whether it is labor, or nuts. Theyounger Cunningham, Walter, came for lunch at the Finchs, and Scoutbugged him roughly his unnatural usage of syrup when both Atticus andCalpurnia stopped her. Calpurnia do the comment Theres some folkwho dont eat like up (24) The lack of availability of syrup causedhim to decant syrup on food such as potatoes and meat. The Cunninghamfamily is well cognise throughout the though of Maycomb, though theyarent high ly though of. along with the Ewells and the Cunninghams,Aunt Alexandra can also be used to explain social class prejudice inTo Kill A Mockingbird. She feels that not only is she above everyone,because everyone in Maycomb, it seemed, had a streak a DrinkingStreak, a Gambling Streak, a Mean Streak,(129) but Alexandra alsofeels that that is a better mother influence than Calpurnia, simplybecause she is white.
